This is just my observation from this little bank of reviews at LibraryThing; most of them don’t appear to be from the United States! Some liked it and some loved it. Of course, some readers seemed too unfamiliar with enough cultural references to follow along, and I get that. That’s why it’s important that a country share a culture—that is traditions, activities, and values that it must assert if it want to remain a country. Throughout world history, civilizations have been galvanized by culture, and nearly every time they have failed, it was because its people failed to uphold the values that enabled their civilization to rise and flourish in the first place. I could go on, but all of this is part of why I wrote CITY ZOO. It’s very much about American culture, and the forces seemingly trying to tear it apart. I know it doesn’t sound like a comedy, but it’s kind of a comedy where you tug at a heart string every now and then. Why not read an excerpt?
